The Salvation Army Provides a Thanksgiving Feast to Those in Need in Denver 19/11/2012
The Salvation Army will be serving a traditional Thanksgiving dinner for hundreds of individuals and families on Thanksgiving Day with over 7,000 pounds of food donated by King Soopers. This meal will be open to the community and held at the Colorado Convention Center - 700 14th Street, Exhibit Hall B entrance on Welton Street, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012.
Guests will be served plates filled with turkey, mashed potatoes, green beans and all the traditional trimmings by Salvation Army volunteers. Over 120 volunteers will be on hand to serve the meals to the attendees.
With the help of the Denver Marriott City Center, The Salvation Army will prepare 800 lbs. of turkey breast, 100 lbs. of potatoes, 25 cases of canned green beans, 20 cases of stuffing mix, 10 boxes of onions, 25 cases of coffee, 10 cases of cranberry sauce, and more than 200 pumpkin pies all generously donated by King Soopers.
"For more than 40 years we have partnered with The Salvation Army to help those who come seeking help, we are pleased to add another year to our tradition to serve those in need." said Kelli McGannon, spokesperson for King Soopers.
"On behalf of over 200 associates here at the Denver Marriott City Center, we are absolutely thrilled to be a part of this event. This is our first year of involvement so everyone is really excited," said Debbie Karcanes, General Manager.
The Denver Marriott City Center is a 613 room, Four Diamond Hotel, hotel located in the heart of Downtown Denver. "Our associates are geared to take care of our guests, so getting out and helping others comes naturally."
In 2011, The Salvation Army estimated it served over 1,300 meals on Thanksgiving Day and expect a similar turnout this Thanksgiving. All are welcome to this free Thanksgiving celebration and no advance reservations are required. Additionally, small give away items including Christmas tree ornaments and t-shirts will be available to on a first come first serve basis.
